Five different players scored for the Orange as the Syracuse field hockey team rolled to a 5-1 win against Colgate on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Tyler's Field.

Syracuse took advantage of its penalty corners early. Ashley Fry scored 13:25 into the game after she was set up by Michelle Sola, who had the initial touch on SU's fifth penalty corner, and its fourth in a row. The Orange made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later. Jessica Dahle picked up a rebound from a shot by Sola and beat a sprawling Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio).

Colgate scored its only goal in the same way, off a rebound. Sophomore Natali Plesniarski (Hamilton, N.Y.) scooped up a loose ball and banged it home after Orange goalie Heather Hess saved a Laura Flisnik (Marcy, N.Y.) shot. Syracuse's Brittany Shannon scored her first career goal with less than two minutes to play in the first half to give the Orange a 3-1 halftime advantage.

Ten minutes into the second half, Paige Sullivan recorded her eighth goal of the season to put SU up 4-1. Sola capped the scoring just over 10 minutes later with a penalty corner goal. Dahle served as the stopped, and Meg Ryan was the inbounder.

DeMarco finished with five saves, three of which came before SU scored its first goal. She was relieved by senior Carolyn Daly (Newark Valley, N.Y.) with 10:21 left in the game. Daly did not face a shot. Hess earned the win for Syracuse with three saves. Marie O'Brien played the last 14:11 without seeing a shot. SU outshot Colgate 14-7, and held an 8-5 edge in penalty corners.

The Raiders return to Patriot League play on Saturday when they host Bucknell at 1:00 p.m., at Tyler's Field. Admission is free.
