Center Valley, Pa. -- The American University field hockey team returned to the nation's top 20 earning a No. 19 ranking in the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
Undefeated Maryland received 1,182 points and 52 first-place votes to earn the No. 1 ranking. North Carolina, Wake Forrest, Princeton and Virginia round out the top five.
The Eagles, who earned 100 points, picked up two wins last week, including a 3-1 defeat of then-No. 13 Penn State on Sunday.
American (3-2) was led by Savannah Graybill, the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Week, who scored two goals and an assist. Anne-Meike De Wiljes was named the Defensive Player of the Week with her two goals and two assists, while Alyssa Poorman was named the Goalkeeper of the Week.
The Eagles will return to the field on Friday when they host California at 3 p.m. before traveling to No. 13 James Madison at 1 p.m. Sunday.
