Center Valley, Pa.Lafayette assistant field hockey coach Jennifer Stone has been named to the New Jersey High Performance Team that will compete in the National Championships starting on June 20 at Virginia Beach.
Stone sealed her spot on the New Jersey High Performance National Championship roster after taking part in the Trial Weekend on June 6-7. Several months ago she was selected to train with the High Performance Center and spent the spring working with some of the nation's top coaches leading up to the Trial Weekend.
The National Championships are a round-robin tournament featuring the top players from USA Field Hockey's six regional High Performance Centers. Those six teams will compete at the tournament and players from those teams will be named to the National and Olympic team rosters.
"Selection to the New Jersey team is a real achievement," Lafayette head coach Andrew Griffiths said. This is a truly elite team with several Olympians and Junior National Team players. Jennifer has been training hard and the National Championships will be a tremendous competitive experience for her. I am sure she will be able to bring new ideas and skills back to our team at Lafayette."
Stone's New Jersey squad will open the tournament on June 20 with a game against either Pennsylvania or California. Former Lafayette assistant coach Amy Tran, a member of the 2008 Olympic team, will be competing with the Pennsylvania High Performance squad.
Stone graduated from Lafayette with degrees in Economics and Business and Art in 2004. She is third in the Leopard record books for career points (135) and career goals (51) and second in career assists (33).
