Worcester, Mass. - Christy Smith (two goals, one assist) scored the overtime goal for Lehigh, lifting the Mountain Hawks to a 3-2 Patriot League victory over Holy Cross. Lehigh improves to 7-6 and 2-1 in league play while the Crusaders fall to 4-11 and 1-2 in the Patriot League.
Entering the second half with not score, Kelly Fox made a breakaway for Crusader territory, making a quick pass to Smith in the circle. Smith finished the play, scoring her first goal of the game, making the score 1-0.
Just under 10 minutes later, Kalynn Davies gave Lehigh a 2-0 cushion over the Crusaders, scoring her 11th goal of the season. Smith had the assist for Davies.
After calling a quick timeout, Holy Cross retaliated with Kara Gonnerman (St. Louis, Mo.) cutting Lehigh's lead in half, scoring an unassisted goal with 15:53 left in the game.
The Crusaders continued to control the offense as Courtney Callahan (Acton, Mass.) tipped in the tying goal 11 minutes later, assisted by Lauren Coletta (Mendon, Mass.).
The Crusaders' offensive control was halted as Smith's breakaway into Holy Cross territory picked up the game-winning goal, tipping the ball in the lower left corner past Crusader goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) 4:56 into overtime.
Singleton made five stops for Holy Cross while the Mountain Hawks' Jessica Miller had four saves.
Holy Cross travels to Bucknell for its next game on Saturday, October 20 at 12:00 p.m.
