CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Patriot League women's basketball teams went 1-1 on Friday evening, with Lehigh's hot shooting propelling it to a victory while Lafayette dropped a road game at St. Francis Brooklyn.

Lehigh (7-2) hit over 50 percent of its attempts from the floor to post an 87-78 win over Vermont to win the opener of the Christmas City Classic for the 10th straight year. Kerry Kinek scored 24 points with five rebounds, while Kayla Burton and Amina Affini chipped in 14 points apiece and Lexi Martins scored 11 with eight boards off the bench. The Mountain Hawks jumped out to an early 10-2 advantage, led by nine midway through the first half and took a 44-35 advantage into the intermission. Burton's 3-pointer at the 16:29 mark capped off a second half-opening 14-4 run for Lehigh that put it ahead 58-39. The Catamounts scored the next 11 points to make it a 58-50 game, but Burton's jumper increased the Lehigh lead to 76-61 with 5:47 to play. Vermont cut the deficit to seven with under two minutes left and under five in the final minute before Kinek, Sarah Williams and Katie O'Reilly hit free throws to finish off the win.

Emily Homan and Jamie O'Hare both scored a team-high 11 points and Madeline Fahan added 10 off the bench, but Lafayette (6-4) fell 74-52 at St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday night. The Terriers shot a blistering 17-of-29 in the second half to finish at 51.1 percent for the game while outscoring the Leopards 41-24 after the break. St. Francis hit on 11-of-22 from the 3-point line for a 33-15 advantage there. Lafayette trailed 11-2 with six minutes gone but cut the deficit to just two on several occasions before being behind 33-28 at halftime. The Terriers opened the second on a 10-2 run and led 50-33 with 14:06 to go. The Leopards scored five straight points in reply, but never came any closer. Lafayette finished the game 28.6 percent (20-of-70) from the floor.

Saturday's slate is busy. It begins at noon when Loyola Maryland hosts UMBC on Patriot League Network. American heads to Coppin State while Bucknell is at Longwood both at 2 p.m. Lehigh hosts Delaware at 4:30 p.m. on Patriot League Network in the championship game of the Christmas City Classic. Holy Cross is at Boston College at 7 p.m.
