The Week In Review

With final exams on the horizon, the competitive schedule was light for Patriot League teams this week. There were just four games on the slate for Patriot League squads, with Army coming out of the week as the lone winner. The Black Knights nipped a feisty Yale unit, edging the Bulldogs on Wednesday, 62-60. Three Patriot League teams were handed losses the night before. Bucknell dropped an 81-44 decision at Penn State. Holy Cross was beaten by Rhode Island, 60-53, in Kinsgston, R.I. Navy was topped by 6-1 Towson, 65-53.

On Deck

Things will remain quiet for the most part across much of the Patriot League this weekend. The intensity will be ratcheted up on Sunday, however. Army will take on No. 13 Rutgers at Madison Square Garden in the third Annual Maggie Dixon Classic. The event honors the memory of former Army head coach Maggie Dixon, who died of heart failure on April 6, 2006, less than a month after leading the Black Knights to their first ever Patriot League title and ensuing trip to the NCAA Tournament. This year's senior class is the last group of Army players to have played under Dixon.

Streaks Galore Lehigh, which held a four-game winning streak earlier this season, is the only Patriot League team that is not currently riding a streak of three games or longer. Three of the seven Patriot League teams that currently possess a three-game run can boast a winning streak. Army holds the longest current winning streak at four games, matching Lehigh's run earlier this season.

2008 Maggie Dixon Classic Army will travel to New York City on Sunday to participate in one of the premiere women's basketball events of the year, the third annual Maggie Dixon Classic. The women's doubleheader features Army vs. national power Rutgers at noon in the first game and Connecticut versus Penn State in the nightcap.

Home Is Where The Heart Is Three Patriot League teams have yet to lose on their home floors this season. American and Lafayette are each 4-0 at home, while Lehigh is 3-0 at Stabler Arena. Lafayette is the only one of those three teams that has not won on the road. The Leopards are 0-5 away from the Kirby Sports Center. Bucknell is on the other end of the spectrum. The Bison started out the season by winning three straight games, all of them on the road. Bucknell is one of two Patriot League teams looking for its first home win. The Bison are 0-2 Sojka Pavilion. Holy Cross is 0-4 at the Hart Center.

Team Notebooks

American The Eagles won their third straight game with a 77-58 triumph over Rhode Island last weekend. After making one three-pointer against the Rams, senior guard Talicia Jackson is now 21 three-pointers away from breaking the school record for career treys. American will be off until Dec. 19 when the Eagles host Princeton.

Army The Black Knights have now won a League-best four straight games to improve to 5-4 on the season. Despite trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, Army rallied to beat Yale, 62-60 on Wednesday. The Black Knights will next travel to New York City for the Maggie Dixon Classic. Army will meet No. 13 Rutgers in the event named after former Army coach Maggie Dixon. Dixon led the Black Knights to their first Patriot League title before passing away in 2006.

Bucknell Bucknell lost its fourth straight, dropping an 81-44 decision to Penn State in University Park, Pa. on Tuesday. Senior guard Amanda Brown connected on 4-of-7 three-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points. The Bison will resume action on Dec. 19 against Wofford at Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg.

Colgate The Raiders fell to 2-8 with a pair of home losses last week. Colgate has now lost four straight games, including two in overtime. Sophomore Georgia Gier averaged 9.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in the Raiders' three losses last week. Colgate will not compete again until a Dec. 28 match-up with Bryant. The next home action for Colgate will be the Raiders' Patriot League opener on Jan. 10 against Army.

Holy Cross The Crusaders dropped their fourth straight contest on Saturday, falling at Rhode Island, 60-53. Sophomore guard Whitney Fremeau recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. The next outing for the Crusaders will be Dec. 22 at Northeastern.

Lafayette The Leopards did not compete this week after going 3-1 last week. Lafayette is 4-0 at home this season and 0-5 away from the Kirby Sports Center. Senior guard Cristin Zavocki leads the Leopards with 10.7 points per game this season. The Leopards will return to action on Tuesday when they head south to Philadelphia to battle LaSalle.

Lehigh The Mountain Hawks share the Patriot League's top record with American after splitting a pair of weekend games last week. Lehigh has been led this season by sophomore Erica Prosser and junior Alex Ross, who average 15.0 and 11.9 points, respectively. The Mountain Hawks will resume action on Thursday at NJIT.

Navy The Mids have dropped three straight games after falling at 6-1 Towson, 65-53. Sophomore center Cassie Consedine has now scored in double-figures in seven of Navy's 11 games this season after producing 14 points against the Tigers. Navy's next game will be Dec. 19 at Rider.
