CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Army's seven-game win streak came to an end Friday night in a 66-60 loss at Rider.
Jen Hazlett led five Army players in double figures with 15 points and five assists, and Kelsey Minato poured in 14. Hazlett's layup gave the Black Knights their biggest lead of the game at 18-8 nearly halfway through the first half. Rider replied with a 20-0 run to take its own 10-point lead at 28-18 with 5:10 left. The Broncs took a 34-26 lead into the half. Rider extended the lead back to double figures early in the second before Hazlett drained a 3 at the 9:55 mark to pull Army within 46-42. Trailing 58-45 with 4:47 on the clock, Army orchestrated a 12-0 run to pull within a point with 2:11 to go. But Rider never gave up the lead and shot 6 of 7 from the foul line in the closing moments.
Five games are on Saturday's schedule, beginning with Holy Cross at Quinnipiac at 1 p.m. on NESN. American hosts George Washington an hour later, while Navy visits Mount St. Mary's at 3 p.m. Colgate welcomes St. Francis (Pa.) at 4 p.m., while Lehigh is home for Niagara at 7 p.m.
