CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three teams played, three teams won in action involving Patriot League women's basketball teams on Friday.
Olivia Schretzman paced Army after a tough start with 19 second-half points, including 13 from the line in 13 tries, while Jen Hazlett led the Black Knights (5-1) with 21 points in a 75-67 win at Stony Brook. Down 31-25 at the half, Hazlett scored five straight point for Army to make it a one-point deficit. A 3-pointer from Kelsey Minato gave Army its first lead since midway through the first half, and four straight points from Brianna Johnson gave the Black Knights a 53-48 advantage with 7:01 to go. The Seawolves kept it within four points until Minato's jumper with 2:36 left put Army ahead 60-54. Schretzman iced the game from there, converting an and-one with less than two minutes left and going 6 of 6 from the line after that.
Linnel Macklin and Emily Homan led Lafayette (5-2) with 12 points apiece, while Danielle Fiacco chipped in 11 and Madeline Fahan hauled in a team-high 10 rebounds in the Leopards' 66-55 win at Loyola Chicago to snap a two-game skid. Macklin came up with the two biggest buckets of the game, first a layup with 2:06 left to put the Leopards up 56-49 and, after a Rambler bucket, a dagger 3-pointer with 1:25 left to give Lafayette a 59-51 lead. Jamie O'Hare hit four straight foul shots and Brya Freeland added a pair from the charity stripe in the final minute. Lafayette, which owned the glass 49-34, hit just eight second-half field goals but finished shooting 21 of 49 (42.9 percent) for the game.
Jade Geif led four Navy players in double figure with 13 points to pace the Mids (5-2) to an 81-61 victory over visiting Brown in the Navy Classic on Friday. Alix Membreno added 12 points, while Kara Pollinger and Sarita Condie chipped in 10 each for the Mids, who shot 56 percent for the game and pulled away hitting nearly 61 percent of its tries in the second half. The Mids led 41-25 at the half after hitting on 14 of 27 field goal attempts and 5 of 13 from the 3-point line. Pollinger and Geif teamed up for nine straight points early in the second half to put Navy up 55-29 with 16:15 left and the Mids never looked back.
Three teams are in action on Saturday. Bucknell is on the road at NJIT at noon, Colgate visits No. 24/24 Gonzaga at 5 p.m. and the Mids finish their own Navy Classic with a 6 p.m. tip against Rider on Patriot League Network.
