CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - American fell in its second consecutive road contest to star the season, while Army's home opener was spoiled by visiting St. Francis (N.Y.).
The Eagles (0-2) took 23 more shots than Oakland but fell 70-60 to the Golden Grizzlies. Jen Dumiak recorded her second straight game with at least 20 points when she hit that stat on the nose on 6-of-13 shooting, including a perfect 6 of 6 from the charity stripe. American used a 6-0 run to get within 60-52 with 1:12 to play, but couldn't complete the comeback. Geleisa George scored 11 points for the Eagles.
It was a tough shooting night for Army (1-1), which went just 16 of 62 from the field (25.8 percent) as the Black Knights were downed 59-47 by St. Francis (N.Y.) at Christl Arena. Freshman point guard Kelsey Minato paced Army with a team-high 15 points, all of which came from beyond the 3-point line. Jen Hazlett pitched in 12, but she and Anna Simmers combined to shoot 5 of 29 from the floor. Olivia Schretzman and Aimee Oertner each grabbed a team-high 10 boards.
Tuesday's schedule features just one contest, as Holy Cross welcomes Boston College to Worcester, Mass., for a 7 p.m. tip.
