CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Last season it took Colgate until game No. 11 to secure its first victory of the season. This year it's a different story, as the Raiders earned a weekend split with a strong showing at home against Robert Morris.
Jhazmine Lynch paced the Raiders (1-1) with 17 points, while Missy Repoli and Josie Stockill hit the double-figure mark for the second straight game in Colgate's 71-55 win over the Colonials. Colgate shot nearly 53 percent from the floor, including a respectable 6-of-14 effort from beyond the arc. The Raiders boasted a strong defensive showing as well, holding Robert Morris to under 40 percent from the field and 2-of-13 shooting on treys.
Defending champion Navy fell to 0-2 with a 44-40 loss Sunday evening at Stony Brook. Alix Membreno was a bright spot for the Mids' offense with a team-high 17 points. The junior from Loxahatchee, Fla., scored with 6:55 remaining to put Navy up 38-37, but that would prove to be its final field goal of the contest.
Danielle Fiacco posted her second straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but Lafayette (1-1) settled for a split of its season-opening weekend with a 60-54 loss at Seton Hall Sunday afternoon. Fiacco logged six rejections for the second straight outing. The Leopards came within two with 1:01 to go after Madeline Peabody's trey from the corner, but the Pirates went 4-of-4 from the foul line to ice the game.
