Two Patriot League Squads Earn Academic Honors from the WBCA

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – A pair of Patriot League women’s basketball programs earned national honors Tuesday, as American and Bucknell were listed in the Academic Top 25, as announced by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). American finished fifth with a team grade-point average of 3.563, while the Bison were 21st with a 3.382.

2012 is the fifth consecutive year in which at least one League teams has made the WBCA Academic Top 25, and the first in that stretch where a pair of teams earned such recognition. Bucknell is on the list for the third straight year, while American appeared in the top 25 for the first time since 2008. Lehigh earned a top-25 position in 2009.

The University of Wisconsin, Green Bay finished atop the Division I Academic Top 25 with a 3.616 team GPA, followed by South Dakota State (3.61), which topped the poll in 2011.

Each year, the WBCA compiles the Academic Top 25 Honor Roll for NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges based on GPAs for the entire season from nominations submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
