CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Patriot League executive director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced Wednesday the sites of the 2009 and 2010 Patriot League women's basketball tournament. The women's tourney will be held at Lehigh University's Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa. in 2009. The following year Holy Cross' Hart Center in Worcester, Mass. will be the site of the tournament.

As the host of the women's tournament, each school will welcome all eight teams to its home court for quarterfinal and semifinal games. The championship contest will then be held at the site of the highest remaining seed.

"We are pleased to announce that Lehigh and Holy Cross will be serving as the host sites for the next two Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournaments," said Femovich. "Both institutions will run a first-class event and provide an excellent tournament experience for both the student-athletes and the fans of Patriot League women's basketball. We are excited to continue holding a tournament that brings all eight teams together at a Patriot League campus site."

The site selection for the tournament was determined following a bidding process, in which institutions submitted a proposal. A committee consisting of Patriot League staff and one representative from each school forwarded a recommendation to the athletic directors, who then voted on the site of the tournament for the next two years.

"Lehigh is honored to have been selected to host the first two rounds of the 2009 women's basketball tournament," said Lehigh Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett. "Our staff is excited about the challenge and well accustomed to staging major events. We expect to provide a quality tournament experience for all the women's basketball student-athletes and coaches in the league."

"We are very grateful that the Patriot League has chosen Holy Cross to play host to the 2010 women's basketball championship," commented Holy Cross Director of Athletics Richard Regan. "We look forward to creating a wonderful environment for the student-athletes and fans from all of the schools in the Patriot League."

The current format has been in effect the last two years as Navy (2007) and Army (2008) served as the host sites. The Patriot League also held its women's tournament in this manner from 1995-2001.

Lehigh's Stabler Arena hosted all three rounds of the Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament in 1992 and 1997. Stabler was also the site of quarterfinal and semifinal games in 2005, when the League awarded the top two seeds hosting rights through the first two rounds.

The Hart Center is no stranger to hosting the Patriot League Tournament as it has housed tournament games 14 out of the 18 years of the tourney's existence. Holy Cross previously hosted the entire tournament in 1991 and 1996 and has been the site of the championship game 13 times.

The 2009 Patriot League Tournament will take place March 7-8 with quarterfinal and semifinal games and the championship tilt taking place on March 11. In 2010 the quarterfinal and semifinals are slated for March 6-7 and the championship game on March 10.
