Holy Cross junior guard Brittany Keil (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) was named the Patriot League Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the League's media relations directors. This marks the second year in a row a student-athlete from Holy Cross was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as Lisa Andrews was the recipient a year ago. Keil is the sixth Crusader to earn this honor in Patriot League history.
Keil has made the Holy Cross Dean's List of Scholars every semester and has earned 4.00 grade point averages in two of her five total semesters. She earned a 3.94 grade-point average in the Fall, which tied for 11th best among Holy Cross student-athletes. The biology major owns a 3.96 cumulative grade point average and is concentrating in biochemistry.
With her selection to the 2006 CoSIDA Academic All-America District I First Team, Keil advanced to the national ballot. Keil was a CoSIDA Academic All-America District I Second Team selection last season.
Keil averaged 11.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season, ranking 12th and seventh, respectively, in the Patriot League. Keil posted six double-doubles this year, which was the second most in the Patriot League. She was both an All-Patriot League Second Team selection, as well as a member of the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. The Crusaders dropped a heartbreaking 69-68 decision to Army in the 2006 Patriot League Championship game.
To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
