CENTER VALLEY, Pa.- American and Navy will play in the women's basketball postseason after being named to the 64-team field for the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) announced late Monday night.

The Mids (24-7) will play at Old Dominion (17-15) on Thursday, the Monarchs lost in the quarterfinal round of the Conference USA Tournament. Seton Hall (18-13), out of the Big East conference, will be the WNIT first round opponent for the Eagles on Thursday. The game times for both contests will be announced on Wednesday.

As the regular season champion of the Patriot League, Navy was an automatic qualifier for the field after losing to Holy Cross in the semifinal round of the postseason tournament.

American lost in the semifinal round of the Patriot League tournament to eventual champion Army, but received an at-large bid to the WNIT after a 22-9 season under first-year head coach Megan Gebbia.

Navy has never faced Old Dominion while American played Seton Hall one time, a 64-53 loss in 2005. The Navy-Old Dominion winner will face the winner of Thursday's Furman-Auburn game in the second round.

The American-Seton Hall winner advances to play the winner of Thursday's VCU-Princeton contest.

This is the first time in the history of the WNIT that two Patriot League teams have made the field. American and Navy join Army (NCAA) and Bucknell (WBI) playing in a women's basketball postseason tournament.
