Army's Erin Anthony Named Patriot League Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Center Valley, Pa.For the second straight year, Army junior Erin Anthony was named the Patriot League Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The announcement was made Tuesday during the Women’s Basketball Tournament media teleconference. Anthony is the fifth player to be named Patriot League Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in back-to-back seasons. No player has won the award three times.

 

A civil engineering major, Anthony holds a 3.78 cumulative grade-point-average. During the fall semester, she posted a 3.95 GPA. Anthony was named a 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-American. She recently became one of 20 cadets in her class to be accepted into the USMA Scholarship Program, which will assist her in applying for the Rhodes and Marshall scholarships, among others.

Anthony was named a First-Team All-Patriot League selection this season, a year after being named to the Second Team. She is the only Patriot League player averaging a double-double as she has produced 16.2 and 10.4 rebounds per outing. She ranks second in the Patriot League with 50 blocked shots. Anthony notched a Christl Arena-record six blocked shots against Lehigh on Feb. 14. She was named Patriot League/Anaconda Player of the Week five times this season.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
