CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- A milestone night helped Navy's Jade Geif (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) receive her third Anaconda Patriot League Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week accolade of the season on Monday. The laurel is her third from the league in the last five weeks and fourth of the 2012-13 season.
Geif capped her week by tying a career high with 22 points in Navy's 63-48 victory over Colgate. She connected on 10 of 14 field goal attempts in the game, with her second basket of the night accounting for career points number 1,000 and 1,001. Geif also converted both of her attempts from the foul line and contributed nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots against the Raiders.
Her week began with a 14-point, 9-rebound effort in Navy's 52-42 win at American. Geif led all players in scoring in the game and was second amongst the Mids in caroms.
Geif averaged 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds a game over the two games, while connecting on 55.2 percent (16-29) of her field goal attempts. She led the Mids in each of those three statistical categories, while also swiping a team-high five steals.
Geif's four weekly nods this season breaks the Navy record (3: Adria Schneck, 1995-96) for the most such laurels earned by a Mid in a single season. Additionally, she has now been tabbed as the league's player of the week five times in her career, which ties her with Schneck for the most accrued by a Mid.
Navy will close the home portion of its regular season Wednesday night by playing host to Lehigh at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall. The Mids will then end their regular season with a game Saturday (7 p.m.) at Bucknell. Wins in both games would assure Navy of earning the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
Regardless of the seed Navy earns, the Mids will play their quarterfinal round game at home on Thursday, March 7. Tickets are available through the Navy Ticket Office by either visiting NavySports.com or by calling 1-800-US4-NAVY.
