Patriot League Announces Anaconda Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.- Senior guard Shelby Romine and freshman forward Claire DeBoer made it a Bucknell sweep of the Patriot League Anaconda Women's Basketball weekly awards on Monday for their performances in a pair of wins last week.

Romine captures her first Patriot League Anaconda Women's Basketball Player of the Week award of the season and third of her career for averaging 20.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds in Bison wins over Loyola University Maryland and Boston University. The Centerville, Va. native scored 21 points and recorded five rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 70-49 win over Loyola on Wednesday and followed that up with a 20-point, 11 rebound effort in Bucknell's 62-50 victory against the Terriers on Saturday. Romine also shot 62.5% from three-point range and 85.7% from the free throw line. With 15 more points, Romine will become the fifth women's basketball player to reach 1,500 points for Bucknell.

DeBoer ties a Patriot League record (Army's Kelsey Minato/2012-13, Bucknell's Lindsey Hollobaugh/2003-04) with her eighth Patriot League Anaconda Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week award. The Grosse Pointe, Mich. native scored 13 points in each of the Bucknell wins last week - including a double-double (11 rebounds) - in the victory over Boston University. DeBoer shot 47.1% from the field and 67.9% from the free throw line in the two contests .

Honorable mention status for the week ending Feb. 23 goes to Holy Cross sophomore forward Raquel Scott, Navy senior forward Jade Geif and Army senior guard/forward Jen Hazlett.

Anaconda Player of the Week

SHELBY ROMINE, BUCKNELL Sr., G, 5-9; Centreville, Va.
Romine led the Bison in scoring in both games during a 2-0 week for the team, scoring 20+ in each outing and continuing a 15-game double-digit scoring strea She contributed a game-high 21 points on 61.5 percent shooting in win over Loyola, hitting both of her three-point attempts and 3-of-4 from the line while contributing five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Registered her seventh career double-double, and sixth of the season, in Saturday's win over Boston University, scoring 20 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Shot 50% from three and 90% from the free throw line against the Terriers. Romine has been named the Anaconda Player of the Week a total of three times in her career - once each as a sophomore, junior and senior.



Anaconda Rookie of the Week

CLAIRE DEBOER, BUCKNELL Fr., F, 6-1; Grosse Pointe, Mich.
DeBoer is named Patriot League Anaconda Rookie of the Week for the eighth time this season after averaging 13.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg in two wins for the Bison. Shot 57.1% from the field and .833 from the line in win over Loyola, grabbing four rebounds, handing out two assists and making a steal. Registered the sixth double-double of her career with 13 points and 11 rebounds in victory against Boston University. DeBoer has scored in double-digits in 11 of the 23 contests in which she has started, and continues to lead all Patriot League freshmen in both scoring (10.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg).

Honorable Mention

RAQUEL SCOTT, HOLY CROSS So., F, 6-0; Ridgewood, N.J.
Averaged 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists in Crusaders 1-1 week. Scott's 25 points and 15 rebounds in Holy Cross' 90-76 win at Lafayette was her Patriot League-best 14th double-double of the season. First in the league in rebounding (9.2 rpg), second in scoring (16.4 ppg) and fifth in field goal percentage (49.7%).

JADE GEIF, NAVY Sr., F, 6-0; Lakeville, Minn.
Averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in Mids 2-0 week. Scored 20 points and grabbed six boards in Navy's 64-57 victory over Holy Cross. Needs six more rebounds to reach 1,000 for career and another 67 points to reach the 1,500 mark.

JEN HAZLETT, ARMY Sr., G/F, 5-11; Syracuse, Utah
Tied a career-high with 12 rebounds in Army's 64-60 win over second place American. Also had 20 points against the Eagles and netted 23 points and snared seven rebounds in loss to Army.
