CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - It had never happened until last season, and now it's occurred three times in the last two seasons.
Army Kelsey Minato swept the Patriot League Anaconda Player and Rookie of the Week awards Monday for the period from Jan. 14-20 to become the third student athlete to claim both honors in the same week. Bucknell's Amy Zehner and Lafayette's Emily Homan are the previous two to do it, with both coming last season.
Four big matchups are on Wednesday's slate when League play resumes. Navy returns home to host American, which is tied for first with Army. The Black Knights will be home to host Colgate. Lafayette visits Holy Cross and Lehigh entertains Bucknell in the rest of Wednesday's action. All four games are set for 7 p.m.
ANACONDA PLAYER AND ROOKIE OF THE WEEK KELSEY MINATO, ARMYFr., Huntington Beach, Calif. Minato tallied a big week for Army, and was instrumental in both Black Knights victories over League opponents Lafayette and archrival Navy with game-high point totals in both outings. She scored 21 points on 8-of-13 from the floor (including 3 of 7 from beyond the arc) with four rebounds in Wednesday's 63-43 victory at Lafayette. In her first taste of the rivalry with Navy, she scored 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field with another three 3-pointers to go along with seven rebounds and three assists in Sunday's 53-42 triumph. She finished the week shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 50 percent on treys, and is now the leading scorer in League play (18.7 ppg).
HONORABLE MENTIONS ALEXIS DOBBS, AMERICANJr., G, Berea, Ohio Averaged 10.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game in American's 2-0 week, which featured a 62-56 win at Lehigh and a 67-62 victory at home over Holy Cross. She tallied 13 points against the Mountain Hawks, including the first four of the second half to spark a 14-0 Eagle run that erased a five-point halftime deficit.
AUDREY DOTSON, BUCKNELLSo., F, Vienna, Va. Averaged a double-double last week of 12.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while leading Bucknell to League victories over Colgate and Lafayette. She scored 14 points and tallied the buzzer-beating game-winner Wednesday against the Raiders, and had 10 points and 12 boards against the Leopards.
HILARY WEAVER, LEHIGHJr., G, Millersburg, Ohio Averaged 12.5 points and 6.0 assists per game in Lehigh's 1-1 week. She scored 18 points with four assists and four steals in Saturday's 70-62 win at Colgate.
KERRY KINEK, LEHIGHFr., F, Whitehall, Pa. Shot 60 percent from the floor and averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. She hit double figures in both contests, scoring 19 with nine rebounds Wednesday against American and pouring in 18 points in Saturday's win at Colgate.
ALIX MEMBRENO, NAVYJr., G, Loxahatchee, Fla. Led Navy in scoring on the week by averaging 13.5 points and added 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in the Mids' 1-1 week. She had 16 points and six boards in the win at Holy Cross, and hauled in seven rebounds with 11 points Sunday at Army.
