Two Patriot League Men's Soccer Student-Athletes Named ECAC All-Stars
Dec. 2, 2009 Center Valley, Pa.--Two Patriot League student-athletes were named 2009 ECAC Division I Men's Soccer All-Stars. Lafayette senior goalkeeper Philip Nelson was named to the first team, while Bucknell senior forward Conor O'Brien was placed on the second team. Nelson became the first Lafayette student-athlete to be named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year. He recorded a League-best nine shutouts during the regular season, giving him 20 for his career. Nelson led the Patriot League with a 0.61 goals-against-average, including paltry 0.19 GAA in Patriot League games. Nelson made 56 saves during his senior campaign. O'Brien was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. He led the League in points (31), goals (11), assists (9) and game-winning goals (7). He had two multi-goal games and one contest with multiple assists this season. He had a hand in 20 of Bucknell's 34 goals this season. Both Bucknell and Lafayette reached the Patriot League Tournament this fall. Lafayette reached the semifinals, finishing the season with a 10-7-2 record. Bucknell won its second Patriot League Championship. The Bison advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, wrapping up its season with a 17-6-0 mark, establishing a new Patriot League record for single-season victories.
