Center Valley, Pa. - The 2008 Patriot League Men's Soccer Champion Colgate Raiders will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to take on the Boston College Eagles in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, it was announced on Monday. The match time is set for 5 p.m. on Friday at Boston College's Newton Campus Soccer Complex. The Raiders (12-5-3, 5-1-1) are making their second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament after beating Holy Cross, 2-1, on Sunday for their second consecutive Patriot League title. Colgate faced South Florida in the first round of last year's College Cup, where it fell to the Bulls, 2-1.
Boston College (10-7-2, 5-3-0) finished tied for third in the ACC this season. This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and the Raiders.
Since the Patriot League received its first NCAA automatic bid in 1995, League teams are 7-14-1 in the tournament. The last Patriot League teams to win or tie in the tournament are the 2006 squads from Bucknell and Lehigh. The Bison beat George Mason, 1-0, in the first round before falling 4-0 to Virginia, while Lehigh received a first-round bye before tying Rhode Island, 1-1, and advancing 5-4 on PKs. The Mountain Hawks fell in the third round, 3-0, to Duke.
The Patriot League is 1-6 against the ACC in the NCAA Tournament, with American beating Wake Forest, 3-0, in 2001 for the lone win.
