Hamilton, N.Y.- Army senior A.J. Glubzinski was voted the Patriot League Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced Thursday night at the Patriot League Men's Soccer Championship Banquet. Glubzinski, an American Politics with Honors major with a cumulative 4.001 grade-point average, is a finalist for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community service. The senior is also a Second-Team Academic All-District I selection by CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine, and is a candidate for both the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships. Glubzinski is a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Collegiate Honor Society and was named a Platoon Sergeant at Army, where he is responsible for the accountability, discipline and training of 30 cadets for the 2008-09 academic year.
The senior goalkeeper started and played in 13 games this season, where he had a .684 save percentage and 1.98 goals-against average. Glubzinski is No. 66 in NCAA Division I men's soccer for saves, averaging 4.23 per game. He is the fourth Army student-athlete to receive the award.
To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
