Center Valley, Pa.--Bucknell will host the 2009 Patriot League Men's Soccer Tournament, marking the third time the Bison have been the top seed in the tournament. Rounding out the field will be No. 2 Lehigh, No. 3 American and No. 4 Lafayette.

Bucknell entered the final weekend of Patriot League play with a two-point lead over American. In the only game played Friday night, the Bison fell, 2-1, in double overtime to Lehigh. That meant American could have passed Bucknell with a victory on its home field on Saturday, but Colgate pushed across a second-half goal to defeat the Eagles, 1-0.

Bucknell finished with 15 points, while American and Lehigh closed with 13. Because a tie still existed, a comparison of records was conducted for each team starting with the highest seed not involved in the tie. Both teams defeated Bucknell, but the Mountain Hawks finished 2-1 against Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafayette, all of which tied for fourth, while American went 1-2 against the same group. As a result, Lehigh secured the No. 2 seed, while American will be the No. 3 seed.

Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafayette all won on Saturday, putting them into a three-way tie for fourth place with 12 points. Lafayette emerged from the three-way tie on the strength of its 1-0 win over Lehigh earlier this season. All three of the tied teams went 1-1 against the other teams in the tie. Because a tie still existed, a comparison of records was conducted for each team starting with the highest seed not involved in the tie. All three teams were defeated by Bucknell, but Lafayette was the only one of the tied teams to beat Lehigh. Because ties are broken in rank order, starting with the highest seed, the Leopards' win over the second-place Mountain Hawks separated Lafayette from Colgate and Holy Cross.

The Patriot League Tournament semifinal matches will be held on Friday, Nov. 13. Bucknell and Lafayette will play in the first semifinal contest at 5 p.m. Lehigh and American will play in the other semifinal at 8 p.m. The championship game will be on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Ticket information will be available in the coming days.
