Bucknell Wins Patriot League Men's Soccer Championship
Nov. 5, 2006 Fourth-seeded Bucknell defeated second-seeded and defending Patriot League Champion Lafayette, 4-3, in penalty kicks on Sunday afternoon to win its first-ever Patriot League Championship. The Patriot League All-Tournament Team was announced at the end of the game. The team included Lehigh's Jim Morahan and Matt Franz, Colgate's Eli Meyers and Justin Burney, Lafayette's Scott Backus, Scott Hawkins, and Luke Sullivan and Bucknell's Mark Schmiegel, Andrew Loia, Corey Curnutte and Dirk Swaneveld. Bucknell goalkeeper Joey Kuterbach was named Patriot League Tournament Most Valuable Player. With the title victory, the Bison earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. NCAA selections will take place between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5.
