Patriot League Men's Soccer Semifinals Results
Nov. 3, 2006 Bethlehem, Pa. - Sunday's Patriot League Men's Soccer Championship dance card has been set as No. 2 Lafayette topped No. 3 Colgate, 2-1, with a goal in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Game two needed overtime as No. 4 Bucknell knocked off host and No. 1 Lehigh, 4-1, in penalty kicks. Trailing 1-0 at the half, the defending Patriot League Champion Leopards scored two second-half goals by Luke Sullivan and Scott Hawkins to get past the No. 3 Raiders. Hawkins tallied the game winner off a pass from Steve Ference, his eighth goal of the season with 79:20 expired on the game clock. His goal came 21 minutes after Sullivan's fifth goal of the season knotted the score at 1-1. Colgate took a 1-0 lead 39:28 into the game on Justin Burney's first goal of the season off a deflection. In the second game, Bucknell's Dirk Swaneveld's first goal of the season to open the second half knotted the game at 1-1, where it remained through regulation and overtime until the Bison outscored No. 1 Lehigh in penalty kicks, 4-1, to advance to the championship game. Chris Hennings goal in penalty kicks gave the Bison the win and its first championship game berth since 1993 when it lost to Army. No. 2 Lafayette will play No. 4 Bucknell at the Ulrich Sports Complex on the campus of Lehigh University in the Patriot League Men's Soccer Championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5.
