Patriot League Men's Soccer Release 10.20.08

Center Valley, Pa.- Four Patriot League squads are ranked in the Oct. 21 NSCAA Middle Atlantic Regional Poll. Patriot League men's soccer teams wrapped up another exciting weekend of Patriot League play, with all of the winners shutting out their opponents. Army's A.J. Glubzinski is one of 10 finalists in the men's soccer division for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Student-athletes from Holy Cross, American and Lafayette all won Patriot League BRINE Player of the Week Awards.

BRINE Offensive Player of the Week

Kyle Miller, Holy Cross So., F, Woodbury, N.J.

Miller scored a hat trick, including the game-winner, in a 4-0 shutout of visiting Navy. Miller doubled his number of goals this season in the one game, bringing his new total to six. The sophomore leads the Crusaders in scoring with 12 points.

BRINE Defensive Player of the Week

Cooper Bryant, American Jr., D, Niederhausen-Oberseelbach, Germany

Bryant had two outstanding games for the Eagles, who went 2-0 on the week, and allowed just one goal to No. 25 Georgetown. Bryant helped lead a defense that allowed just one shot on goal in a 1-0 shutout against Lehigh.

BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week

Matt Makowski, American Fr., Quakertown, Pa.

Makowski went 2-0 on the week, defeating No. 25 Georgetown with nine saves in that game, and shutting out Lehigh 1-0 with one save. The shutout was Makowski's fourth this season and second in Patriot League play.

BRINE Rookie of the Week

Shane Pruitt, Lafayette Fr., F, Venetia, Pa.

Pruitt scored his first collegiate goal, the game-winner, 44 seconds into the 2-0 win over Army on Saturday. Pruitt has started the last three games for Lafayette and has appeared in 12 of the team's 13 matches. This is Pruitt's first Patriot League weekly honor.

Patriot League Weekend Recap

Patriot League men's soccer teams wrapped up another exciting weekend of Patriot League play, with all of the winners shutting out their opponents. Lafayette kicked things off on Saturday with a 2-0 blanking of Army, followed by Holy Cross' 4-0 blanking of Navy in Worcester. Colgate handed Bucknell its second Patriot League loss of the season in a hotly-contested 1-0 win, and American defeated Lehigh 1-0 in Bethlehem.

Patriot League Preview

Next weekend's Patriot League games kick off on Friday afternoon in West Point, where Army will host Lehigh at 4 p.m. Colgate heads to Annapolis to face the Mids on Saturday at noon, and Holy Cross will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the red-hot American Eagles at 1 p.m. The nightcap on Saturday features Bucknell at Lafayette at 7 p.m.

Army's Glubzinski Named Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist

Army's A.J. Glubzinski is one of 10 finalists in the men's soccer division for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced Thursday. Glubzinski's name has been placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote that began Oct. 16 and will conclude Nov. 19. Votes from coaches and media will be coupled with fan balloting to determine the recipient of the award. Fans can vote online during this time period at www.seniorclassaward.com. The winner will be announced during the NCAA Championship, December 12-14 in Frisco, Texas.

Four Patriot League Teams In NSCAA Regional Poll Four Patriot League squads are ranked in the Oct. 21 NSCAA Middle Atlantic Regional Poll. Holy Cross is the top-ranked Patriot League team, coming in at fourth in the region. The Crusaders are followed by Colgate (fifth), American (seventh), Lehigh (tenth) and Lafayette, which received votes.

2008 Patriot League Tournament

The 2008 Patriot League Tournament will take place Friday and Sunday, November 14 and 16 at the site of the highest seed. The top four teams as determined by the regular-season standings will participate in the Patriot League tourney.

Team Notebooks

American

American scored two big wins last week, defeating Georgetown, 4-1 and Lehigh, 1-0. The Eagles will host Patriot League-leading Holy Cross on Saturday in a key Patriot League matchup.

Army

Army went 1-1 this week, winning its first home game of the season against NJIT, 2-1. The Black Knights dropped their Patriot League game against Lafayette, 2-0. Army will look for its first Patriot League win of the season when it hosts Lehigh on Friday.

Bucknell

The Bison lost a hard-fought game to rival Colgate on Saturday, 1-0. The Bison will look to improve their 5-6-3 overall record as they host St. Peter's on Wednesday and face Lafayette on Saturday night.

Colgate

The Raiders moved into second place in the Patriot League standings with a 1-0 win over Bucknell behind a solid defensive effort. Colgate will host Cornell on Tuesday night, then will travel to Annapolis for a noon match against the Mids.

Holy Cross

The hot foot of Kyle Miller helped Holy Cross beat Navy 4-0 on Saturday. Miller scored three goals in the win. The Crusaders will host Ivy League rival Harvard on Tuesday night before facing American in a Patriot League match on Saturday.

Lafayette

Lafayette scored a pair of impressive wins this week, defeating Villanova on the road, 1-0, and beating Army 2-0 at home. The Leopards will head to New York to face Columbia on Tuesday before hosting Bucknell on Saturday in Patriot League play.

Lehigh

The Mountain Hawks are now 5-5-3 overall this season after losing a pair of games to No. 6 Maryland and American. Lehigh will look to rebound from the losses as they host Penn State on Tuesday before facing Army on Friday night.

Navy

The Mids extended their Patriot League losing streak to 12 games this weekend after getting blanked 4-0 by Holy Cross. Navy will look to win its first Patriot League game of the season against Colgate on Saturday afternoon.
