Center Valley, Pa.- Army senior goalkeeper A.J. Glubzinski was named a candidate for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in the men's soccer division on Wednesday. Glubzinski is one of 30 student-athletes receiving consideration for the award, one of the most prestigious honors in college athletics, given annually to senior NCAA Division I student-athletes across nine sports. Patriot League play begins this Saturday, starting with a match between American and Army in West Point at 1 p.m. Holy Cross' Jerry Dickinson was named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 8-14. Student-athletes from Holy Cross, Lehigh and Lafayette all won Patriot League BRINE Player of the Week awards.

BRINE Offensive Player of the Week

Jon Werth, Holy Cross So., M, University Park, Md.

Werth scored the game-winning goal with just under seven minutes left in the first half in a 2-0 shutout victory over Florida Gulf Coast. Werth also scored the lone goal in the Crusaders' 1-1 tie with Florida International.

BRINE Defensive Player of the Week

Matt McNeil, Lehigh Jr., D, Phoenixville, Pa.

McNeil scored Lehigh's only two goals in the 3-2 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday at home. This is McNeil's first BRINE Defensive Player of the Week honor.

BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week

Thomas Booth, Holy Cross Jr., Patchogue, N.Y.

Booth had 12 saves and a .923 save percentage in a 2-0 shutout win over Florida Gulf Coast and a 1-1 tie against Florida International. Booth had a season-high seven saves against FIU, and has only allowed five goals so far this season.

BRINE Rookie of the Week

Wayne Maminski, Lafayette Fr., F, Philadelphia, Pa.

Maminski came off the bench to score a goal on the only shot of the game in a 2-1 loss to Cornell. Maminski has two goals on the season and is the only Lafayette freshman to register points this season.

Army's Glubzinski "CLASS" Award Candidate

Army senior goalkeeper A.J. Glubzinski was named a candidate for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in the men's soccer division on Wednesday. Glubzinski is one of 30 student-athletes receiving consideration for the award, one of the most prestigious honors in college athletics, given annually to senior NCAA Division I student-athletes across nine sports. The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award is distinctive from many other honors in that on-the-field performance is only one factor in determining candidacy - a major emphasis is placed on off-the-field commitments and personal character. This season, Glubzinski is the senior captain and starting goalkeeper for the Cadets. Glubzinski is among the Patriot League leaders in goals-against average, saves, save percentage and saves per game.

Patriot League Play Begins This Weekend

Patriot League play begins this Saturday, starting with a match between American and Army in West Point at 1 p.m. Archrivals Lafayette and Lehigh will take the field in Bethlehem at 7 p.m., while Navy heads to Lewisburg for a game against Bucknell. 2007 Patriot League Champion and 2008 Patriot League Preseason No. 1 Colgate will host 2008 Patriot League Preseason No. 2 Holy Cross, which finished first in the 2007 regular season and hosted the 2007Patriot League Tournament.

Dickinson Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

Holy Cross' Jerry Dickinson was named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 8-14. Dickinson is the first Patriot League men's soccer player to receive ECAC distinction this season. Dickinson scored two goals in the second half of the Crusaders' game against Northeastern, lifting Holy Cross to a 3-2 victory. Down 2-1 with just under 15 fifteen minutes left, Dickinson scored back-to-back unassisted goals for the victory. He also led the Crusaders defensively as they shut out Sacred Heart, 1-0.

2008 Patriot League Tournament

The 2008 Patriot League Tournament will take place Friday and Sunday, November 14 and 16 at the site of the highest seed. The top four teams as determined by the regular-season standings will participate in the Patriot League tourney.

Team Notebooks

American

The Eagles tied James Madison 1-1 in double overtime at home Wednesday and lost 2-0 to crosstown rival George Washington on Saturday. American travels to College Park, Md. for a Tuesday night game against ACC foe Maryland.

Army

The Black Knights won their first game of the season this weekend at the BSC Classic in Birmingham, Ala., 3-1 over host Birmingham Southern. Army kicks off Patriot League play this Saturday when it hosts American.

Bucknell

The Bison saw their five-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Friday with a 3-1 loss to Binghamton. Bucknell's two losses this weekend came on the road against teams that are now 9-2-3 on the season.

Colgate

Colgate traveled to Boston this weekend, where they were defeated 4-2 by Boston University. The Raiders will host Holy Cross this Saturday in the first weekend of Patriot League play.

Holy Cross

Goalkeeper Thomas Booth currently has 25 saves on the season, and is averaging 3.6 saves per game. Booth currently has three shutouts on the season, posting an overall record of 4-1-2.

Lafayette

The Leopards shut out Rider 1-0 in overtime and lost to Cornell 2-1 this weekend. Lafayette is looking to rebound with a win over archrival Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. this weekend.

Lehigh

Lehigh played only one game this week, losing 3-2 to Fairleigh Dickinson at home on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks will take on archrival Lafayette this Saturday at home in Patriot League action.

Navy

With its loss to Air Force, Navy saw its seven-game nonconference road unbeaten streak come to an end. The last time Navy lost a nonconference away game was last September. The Mids will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. this weekend to face Bucknell in Patriot League play.
