CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army and Navy recently announced that the 2012 and ‘13 editions of their annual regular-season matchup in men's soccer will take place at PPL Park in Chester, Pa.
The Black Knights and the Midshipmen will play out their rivalry on the pitch just outside Philadelphia Saturday, Sept. 30. Match time has not been announced.
This fall will mark the 75th straight year in which Army and Navy have played opposite one another, but it will be just the fourth showdown at a neutral site and first since the championship game of the 1996 Patriot League Tournament in Hamilton, N.Y.
Navy owns a 38-27 advantage in the series, and there have been 13 draws.
The first two neutral-site meetings between the rivals came in the NCAA Tournament in 1963 (New Brunswick, N.J.) and 1966 (Philadelphia).
Completed in 2010, PPL Park serves as the home of the Philadelphia Union of the MLS, and has hosted a variety of other sports and entertainment events the last several years. The venue, which seats 18,500 spectators, recently hosted the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals.
2012 will mark the 23rd season of Patriot League men’s soccer. Colgate is the defending champion.
