WASHINGTON, D.C. -- George Washington scored two goals in the second half to break open a scoreless game at halftime and defeat the Navy men's soccer team, 2-0, on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Mount Vernon Field. The loss drops Navy to 5-4-0 on the season, while George Washington improves to 5-3-0.

"I thought we played reasonably well, we just couldn't find the goal," said Navy head coach Dave Brandt. "We are young and I thought we made some mistakes on both sides of the ball. Right now, we aren't good enough to get away with some of the things we did. But I thought we played all right and we had our chances."

The Colonials' Andy Stadler, the Atlantic 10's leading goal scorer, tallied his eighth goal of the year in the 53rd minute to give the Colonials a 1-0 advantage. The Navy defense had a miscommunication in the box, helping Stadler pick up a loose ball and trickle his shot into the back of the net.

Navy started to press offensively, resulting in several strong chances, but it was George Washington that tallied an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. Erick Perez-Segnini found some space at the top of the box and let loose a rocket into the left side of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

"I'm disappointed to give up a second goal. We were trying to get back into the game and to give up a goal like that is disappointing," said Brandt. "Both goals were defensive breakdowns, so we know we can fix that. We just have to shore it up in the back a little bit and we'll be fine."

The Mids were outshot, 16-10, in the contest, including 9-1 in the opening half. Navy did outshoot the Colonials, 9-7, in the second half, including three shots on goal in the final 45 minutes. GWU had five corner kicks to Navy's four and the Colonials were whistled for 14 fouls to Navy's nine. Bristol made three saves in goal for Navy.

The Midshipmen will be back in action on Saturday night at 8:00 pm at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility against Patriot League member Bucknell. Fans that bring their Air Force football ticket stub to the GWSF ticket window can receive a soccer ticket for just $2. For more informtion, call the Navy ticket office at 1-800-US4-NAVY.
