Patriot League's Wanninger Appointed President of USILA

Dec. 17, 2008

Baltimore, Md.- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) announced Friday the appointment of Richard Wanninger as its new president as well as one new board member and the re-election of another representative.

Currently, Wanninger is the Associate Executive Director for External Relations at the Patriot League. He had served on the board for the previous two years. He replaces Kevin Corrigan, the head men's lacrosse coach at the University of Notre Dame, who completed his two-year term as the organization's president. Corrigan had served as the board in a variety of roles for the past 12 years.

Stony Brook (N.Y.) University Director of Athletics Jim Fiore replaces Wanninger on the Board of the Directors as the NCAA Division I administrator. This is Fiore's first term on the USILA Board of Directors.

Chris Ryan, the head men's lacrosse coach at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., was re-elected to a three-year term as the board's NCAA Division II coaches' representative.

Dickinson College Head Lacrosse Coach David Webster (Division III coaches' representative), U.S. Military Academy Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Joe Alberici (Division I coaches' representative), Connecticut College Athletic Director Fran Shields (Division III administrator) and Southern New Hampshire Director of Athletics Chip Polak (at-large member) also return to the seven-member Board of Directors.

The USILA is an organization comprised of member colleges and universities which sponsor intercollegiate lacrosse for men. The USILA is entrusted to enhance and develop intercollegiate lacrosse by providing leadership, management, and services to its membership so that student-athletes, coaches, and other constituent groups will realize the maximum benefit from the sport of lacrosse. The organization oversees the officiating program for NCAA Division I, II and III men's lacrosse, as well as the operation of the North/South All-Star game, All-America and academic All-America recognition programs and the weekly coaches' poll.
