2007 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll
Center Valley, Pa. - Navy's Colin Finnegan was tabbed the 2007 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was one of 81 student-athletes named to the 2007 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll, announced Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich Friday. Also included on this year's list was Colgate's Joshua Back, who achieved a 4.0 grade-point average during the spring semester. Finnegan, an English major, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a 3.51 cumulative grade-point average. The two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member was been named to the Commandant's List six times, the Dean's List three times and the Superintendent's List twice. The Second-Team All-Patriot League pick ended the season ranked third in the nation in goals against average (6.26) and 12th in save percentage (.588) for the nationally-ranked Mids, who made their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007. Finnegan, who started all 15 of Navy's games in goal, was the backstop for a Midshipmen defense that ranked third in the nation in scoring defense (6.60). He was named to the Patriot League Championship All-Tournament Team and was a three-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week honoree in 2007. For the third time in four years, the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year has hailed from Navy, starting in 2004 when the Mids joined the Patriot League in the sport of men's lacrosse. Navy's other winner of the award was Clipper Lennon, who was honored in both 2004 and 2005. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's six winter or 10 spring championship sports. A total of 989 student-athletes were named to the Patriot League's Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, which includes the sports of men and women's basketball, men and women's swimming and diving, men and women's indoor track and field, baseball, golf, men and women's lacrosse, rowing, men and women's outdoor track and field, softball and men and women's tennis.
