Paul Stansik wrote a check for $125, thinking it would get him a T-shirt and some memories. Instead, the 2003 Pioneer High School graduate cashed in a dream.
Three months after joining 40 other dues-paying hopefuls at an open tryout for the Chicago Machine of Major League Lacrosse, the longstick defender was scoring a flashy behind-the-back goal in front of 8,000 fans at Invesco Field in Denver.
"Coming into open tryouts, my goal was to make the team and dress for a game. I really didn't expect to accomplish it, so everything that's happened since then has just been a nice bonus,'' Stansik said.
