At age 27, Kevin Cassese came to Lehigh with a history of success: multiple NCAA Tournament appearances as a player, All-America accolades, an MLL Championship and just coming off an NCAA Championship appearance as an assistant coach at Duke.
“I felt like I was going to come to Lehigh and build a national championship team in a couple years,” Cassese says. “I had no idea what it took. I had no idea what to expect; I thought I could work a miracle right away.”
It wasn't quite that simple. The Mountain Hawks under Cassese suffered seasons of 6-9 and 4-11 in his first two years.
“I’ll be honest with you after the first couple of years, this type of year that we had (in 2012) seemed so far away,” Cassese said.
