CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Five Patriot League men's lacrosse student-athletes were honored as Scholar All-America selections by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), it was announced this week.
A USILA Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and cumulative GPA of 3.0. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. The player will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution and to college lacrosse both on and off the field.
Three schools are represented by the five selections, with Patriot League champion Loyola University Maryland collecting multiple honorees. The Greyhounds were represented by Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar Athlete Joe Fletcher, Patrick Laconi and Justin Ward. Bucknell's Jackson Place and Lehigh's Ty Souders also were among the more than 100 seniors honored.
The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize senior student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
