Both Colgate, the Patriot League's automatic qualifier, and Navy received bids to the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament. Colgate will play sixth-seeded Notre Dame on Sunday, May 11 at Noon and Navy will face fourth-seeded North Carolina on Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. The games will be played on the campuses of the seeded team and both will be shown on ESPNU.

The Patriot League sent multiple teams to the NCAA Tournament in both 2004 and 2005. In 2004, the year Navy made it to the NCAA Championship Game, three teams were selected to play (Army, Hobart and Navy). Both Army and Navy claimed spots in the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

This year marks Colgate's first-ever trip to the NCAA tourney. The Raiders earned the Patriot League's automatic qualifier after winning the Patriot League Tournament title as the No. 3 seed, defeating both Navy and Bucknell.
