Center Valley, Pa. - Army's Scott Rosenshein was named the 2008 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced on Tuesday by Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich. The scholar-athlete of the year award is voted on by the Patriot League's men's lacrosse sports information directors.
Rosenshein is a chemical engineering major with a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average, which is tops for the 2008 Black Knights men's lacrosse squad. The Montclair, N.J., native is a five-time Dean's List selection at West Point and was named to the 2007 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll. He is the first men's lacrosse student-athlete to be enrolled in the prestigious Scholarship Program at Army.
On the field, Rosenshein has appeared in all 14 games so far for the nationally-ranked Black Knights, including a semifinal contest in the 2008 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Championship. Army earned the No. 1 seed in the tourney after compiling a 5-1 record in Patriot League play. The junior Black Knight is one of the team's starting face-off wings and is a valuable member of the defense. Army is ranked fourth in the nation in scoring defense (6.71) and 25th in face-off win percentage (.507).
Rosenshein is one of three Black Knights to ever be named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Dominic Nogic earned the honor in 2001 and Mike Kamon shared the title in 2003. To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
