Phil McKnight (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin) and Mark Prior (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) each scored three goals and RJ Harrison (Columbus, OH) recorded three assists as the UVM men's lacrosse team defeated Holy Cross, 10-3, Wednesday night.
Vermont, 4-6 overall, took a 3-1 lead after one on goals by Thomas Hajek (St. Catharines, ONT), McKnight and Prior. The Catamounts opened it up with three goals in the second period to take a 6-2 lead at the half, and then scored four unanswered in the third stanza to take a 10-2 lead after three.
The Catamounts were six for eight on the man-up, while Holy Cross, 1-8, was three for six.
Hajek had two goals and two assists for the winners, while Doug Moses (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) scored twice and had an assist.
Holy Cross got two goals from standout freshman Mike McKee, and one from Shaun McGowan.
In net, Vermont's Ed Burns (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) made 13 saves in 56:25 of action, while Matt Geary (Marshfield, MA) made one stop. Brian Hodgdon had seven saves for Holy Cross.
Vermont plays Quinnipiac at Centennial Field Saturday at 1:00pm.
