NEW YORK - In an effort to provide United States servicemen and women stationed overseas with a slice of stateside college sports, CSTV: College Sports Television the fastest-growing independent cable network, has reached an agreement by which CSTV will provide select programming free of charge to the American Forces Network (AFN) for distribution by AFN to military bases overseas.

AFN programming is distributed to Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine bases, as well as United States embassies, in 177 countries and territories worldwide. The AFN also is available on U.S. Navy ships at sea.

The next CSTV telecast on AFN will be No. 8 Navy at No. 9 Army on Saturday, March 27 at 12 p.m. from venerable Michie Stadium, and will be televised on AFN Tuesday, March 30, at 9 p.m. In January, AFN broadcast CSTV's Air Force-Army men's ice hockey contest, and last October AFN carried CSTV's telecast of the Pride Bowl, the Army-Navy sprint football game.

"I had recently been on assignment in Kuwait with my unit and was staying at Camp Spearhead," said Sean Stuckey, 1st Class Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard and former assistant hockey coach at the Coast Guard Academy and Bridgewater State.

"I caught the Army-Air Force game on CSTV. Not many in the DFAC (Dining Facility) knew what to make of the game, but I did. I'm a skater and former (Division II) head coach. It was such a welcome change from Poke-Mon. I'll never forget the time I saw Army-Air Force play hockey while I was in a combat zone!"

CSTV, the first 24-hour college sports network, is available to more than 17 million homes nationally on cable and satellite. The network is available on Time Warner, Adelphia and Insight cable systems, among others, and is also available on DirecTV (channel 610). For information on CSTV availability in particular markets, consumers can log on to www.collegesports.com or call their cable or satellite operator.

CSTV is comprised of two primary business units: College Sports TV and CollegeSports.com. College Sports TV televises regular-season and championship event coverage from every major collegiate athletic conference and televises nine NCAA Championships. In addition, the network has a programming and marketing agreement with the U.S. Olympic Committee. CollegeSports.com, the most-trafficked college sports Web site, and its network of 150 official athletic sites for top colleges, universities and athletic associations, is the number one online source for college sports news, information, scores and analysis.

CSTV was co-founded by President/CEO Brian Bedol, Chairman Stephen Greenberg and Executive Vice President Chris Bevilacqua. Bedol and Greenberg co-founded Classic Sports Network, which they sold to ESPN and which is now ESPN Classic. Bevilacqua is a former senior executive with Nike Inc., where he headed the company's successful foray into the college market.
