CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Tewaaraton Foundation announced Friday its Tewaaraton Award Watch Lists in the sports of men's and women's lacrosse. The list, which features student-athletes from all three levels of NCAA competition, features 11 student-athletes from Patriot League institutions in men's lacrosse.
Colgate senior attackman Peter Baum, the reigning Tewaaraton Award winner, head's up the men's list. He is also the defending Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, was selected by the League's head coaches and sports information directors to repeat in winning that award, and was a preseason All-League selection.
Lehigh led the League with three selections, including senior attackmen David DiMaria and Dante Fantoni. Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Poillon rounds out Lehigh's representation on the list.
Army, Bucknell and Colgate tied with two candidates each on the list. Army's members named to the Tewaaraton Watch list are senior attackman Garrett Thul and sophomore midfielder John Glesener. Senior defender Mike Huffner and senior goalkeeper Kyle Feeney represent Bucknell. Huffner was also named the League's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Joining Baum on the list from Colgate is sophomore attackman Ryan Walsh.
Holy Cross and Navy are each represented by one student-athlete on the Watch List. Senior attackman James Kennedy became the first Crusader named last season, and makes a second appearance in 2013. Navy junior attackman Tucker Hull rounds out the list of 11.
Each year, the Tewaaraton Award celebrates one of the six tribal nations of the Iroquois Confederacy - the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora. 2013 is The Year of the Mohawk.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and top female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Committees will make additions to these lists as the season progresses and athletes earn a spot along side these elite players. Both lists will be narrowed to 25 men's and women's nominees in late April. In mid-May, five men's and five women's finalists will be announced. These finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
