CENTER VALLEY, Pa - Just two weeks into the season, Patriot League play is already here in men's lacrosse as eight of the nine teams open their League schedule on Saturday.
The action begins with Colgate heading to Lafayette at Noon, followed by Loyola University Maryland at Holy Cross and Lehigh at Boston University at 1 p.m. as both of the new members play their first Patriot League contest. The League slate of games wraps up with Navy at Bucknell at 3 p.m. The latter three games will all be available on the free Patriot League Network
Army is the only team with a non-League contest as the Black Knights visit Furman. Patriot League squads have combined for a 10-8 record through the first two weeks of the season.

LOYOLA CAST AS THE FAVORITE
With 123 points and 13 first-place votes, Loyola will begin its inaugural season as the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse favorite as chosen by the League's head coaches and sports information directors. Bucknell (108 points) was narrowly tabbed as runner by one point over two-time defending champion Lehigh (107).
GREYHOUNDS INTO TOP 10 AFTER WIN AT PENN STATE
LEHIGH WINS A THRILLER FOR BEST START SINCE 2000
Loyola's 12-11 win in overtime at then No. 9 Penn State on Saturday has the Greyhounds into the top 10 in both national polls. Loyola came in at No. 9 in the USILA Division I Coaches Poll and No. 10 in the Warrior Division I Media Poll this week after the victory, moving up from No. 12/16 in the rankings. Lehigh is into the top 15 in both rankings at No. 15 in USILA and No. 14 in the media rankings, while Bucknell held at No. 20 in the media poll. Colgate is into the receiving votes category of both polls after a 2-0 start which included a season-opening win over Bryant.
Lehigh is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2000 after a triple overtime 7-6 win over then No. 20 Villanova on Sunday. The Mountain Hawks got the winning goal from Kurtis Kaunas with just seven seconds left in the third overtime. The victory marks Lehigh's eighth-straight in the regular season and sixth in a row at home dating back to last year. Holy Cross nearly beat another ranked BIG EAST opponent before bowing out 15-13 at No. 19 St. John's on Sunday.
FLETCHER SELECTED FOR U.S. NATIONAL TEAM.....
Loyola University senior defender Joe Fletcher, the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, was the only college player selected for the 30-man United States National Team roster which will compete in the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships this July in Denver. Patriot League alums Garrett Thul ('13 Army) and Chris Eck ('08 Colgate) were also chosen.
AND NAMED ONE OF FOUR CANDIDATES FROM PATRIOT LEAGUE FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Four Patriot League student-athletes were among the 20 named to the Men's Lacrosse Senior CLASS Award candidate list on Thursday, including two from Loyola as Joe Fletcher and Justin Ward both earned a spot. Lehigh's Ty Souders and Bucknell's Todd Heritage joined them to complete the League's candidate list. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Men's Lacrosse Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Baltimore May 24-26.
SUPER SEVEN CHOSEN IN MLL DRAFT
Seven Patriot League seniors were selected in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft with Loyola's Joe Fletcher going the highest at No. 3 overall to the New York Lizards. All of Loyola's tri-captains were picked, as midfielder Pat Laconi was the ninth pick overall and first of the second round to the Charlotte Hounds and attackman Justin Ward went in the third round at No. 23 overall, also to Charlotte. Four other Patriot League defenseman were picked in the third through sixth rounds in the draft. Lehigh's Ty Souders went one spot ahead of Ward at No. 22 to the Denver Outlaws, while Bucknell's Jackson Place was the top pick of the fourth round at No. 25 overall to the Ohio Machine, Navy's Pat Kiernan went in the fifth round at No. 35 overall to the Chesapeake Bayhawks and Colgate's Bobby Lawrence was taken in the sixth round at No. 45 overall to the Florida Launch.
PATRIOT LEAGUE ON CBS SPORTS NETWORK
At least eight contests involving Patriot League teams will air on national television on CBS Sports Network in 2014, including all three games of the Patriot League Tournament in late April. The televised schedule begins Sunday, March 9, with a rematch from the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament when Loyola Maryland hosts Duke at the Ridley Athletic Complex at 6 p.m. In addition to four other regular season games, the network will televise the semifinals and championship of the Patriot League Tournament April 25/27 from the site of the highest seed.
