CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Three teams that qualified for last season’s Patriot League Tournament were ranked in the two major national rankings Monday, including both programs that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Defending Patriot League champion Lehigh was ranked No. 11 in the preseason United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) coaches’ top 20 Monday with 113 points, and came in at No. 10 in the first Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media top 20 with 272 points.
Colgate, which fell in last season’s Patriot League championship game but received an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, swapped spots with the Mountain Hawks in both polls. The Raiders were listed No. 10 in the USILA voting with 122 points and ranked 11th in the media poll with 251 points.
The third League program to garner a national ranking Monday was Bucknell. The Bison were ranked No. 18 in both polls, capturing 32 points in the coaches’ voting and 68 in the media poll.
Two other League teams received votes but did not make either preseason top 20. Navy garnered votes in the media poll, and Army did so in the coaches’ rankings.
Defending national champion Loyola Maryland was the preseason No. 1 in both polls. Maryland, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins and North Carolina rounded out the USILA top five, while Maryland, Notre Dame, Duke and Johns Hopkins make up the media top five.
The season opens Saturday, Feb. 9 with five of the League’s seven teams in action.
