2014 MLL Draft Results
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Seven Patriot League seniors were selected in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft on Friday in Philadelphia, with Loyola Maryland defenseman Joe Fletcher going the highest at No. 3 overall to the New York Lizards.
Fletcher was the only Patriot League selected in the first round, and one of three players drafted from the Greyhounds. All of Loyola's tri-captains were picked, as midfielder Pat Laconi was the ninth pick overall and first of the second round to the Charlotte Hounds and attackman Justin Ward went in the third round at No. 23 overall, also to Charlotte.
Four other Patriot League defenseman were picked in the third through sixth rounds in the draft. Lehigh's Ty Souders went one spot ahead of Ward at No. 22 to the Denver Outlaws, while Bucknell's Jackson Place was the top pick of the fourth round at No. 25 overall to the Ohio Machine, Navy's Pat Kiernan went in the fifth round at No. 35 overall to the Chesapeake Bayhawks and Colgate's Bobby Lawrence was taken in the sixth round at No. 45 overall to the Florida Launch.
Fletcher became the highest Loyola player ever selected in the 14-year history of the MLL Draft, and the second-highest Patriot Leaguer after Colgate's Peter Baum was the first overall pick of the draft last year. It is the second straight season where seven Patriot Leaguers were taken in the MLL Draft.
