Patriot League Teams join up in Multiple Fall Events
Four October events featured multiple Patriot League teams, with a pair matching up rivals Army and Navy. The Mids got the better of the Black Knights twice, defeating Army 7-4 in Annapolis in the Star Match on Oct. 1-2 and finishing ahead of Army in the three-team Service Academy Classic that also included Air Force on Oct. 24-25. More than half of the Patriot League competed at the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 22-23, with Colgate placing second, Lafayette fourth, Lehigh sixth and Bucknell seventh in the eight-team field. Lafayette also placed ahead of Lehigh at the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate on Oct. 15-16.
There were five events in Septemeber that featured multiple Patriot League teams in the field, including six of the League's seven teams partaking in a preview of the 2012 Patriot League Championship at Bucknell Golf Course on Sept. 16-17. Army finished second overall and tops among the Patriot League teams in that field, and was followed closely by Lafayette (3rd), Bucknell (4th), Navy (5th), Lehigh (6th) and Colgate (8th) in the 13-team tournament.
When he won the NEIGA Championship, Zychowski became the fifth Patriot League golfer to win an individual title in the fall. Navy freshman August Jonas won his first collegiate event with a 4-under par 138 at the Navy Fall Classic on Sept. 10-11 to claim the title by one stroke. Lafayette senior Carter Rufe put together a dominant performance at the Cornell Invitational on Sept. 24-25 as he shot a 6-under 210 to finish as the only under-par golfer in the field. At the Rehoboth Beach Invitational on Sept. 26, a pair of seniors shared the title as Lafayette's Rob Robertson and Navy's Tim Shield each shot a 3-under par 139 to finish as part of a three-way tie for the top spot in the event.
