ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Peter Reilly, the 2011 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for golf and 2012 graduate of the Naval Academy, was among the 146 Division I golfers named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, it was announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Reilly, a two-time member of the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar award, was the only golfer to represent the Patriot League on the prestigious list.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Reilly, who was named a Capital One Academic All-District II selection, graduated in May with a degree in history, achieving a 3.07 grade-point average in his final semester of study and a 3.43 overall GPA. He was a member of the Honors program at the Naval Academy, graduating among the top 25 percent of his class of better than 1,000 students in academic order of merit. He was named to the Commandant's List in seven of the eight semesters at the Academy, while earning Dean's List mention in three of the last four semesters. Reilly was also named the co-winner of the Naval Academy's McMurtry Award this spring which is presented to the program's best honors history thesis.
A three-time Second-Team All-Patriot League golfer (2009, `10, `12), Reilly paced the team with a 75.3 stroke average which is the program's fourth-lowest single-season stroke average in the last nine years. He participated in 12 events over the course of the year where he recorded five top-10 performances, including four top-five finishes. Among his top-10 marks was a sixth-place finish at the 2012 Patriot League Championship where he helped lead Navy to its sixth Patriot League team title. Reilly concluded his career with a 59th-place finish at the NCAA Regional held at the U-M Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich.
