Patriot League Golf Academic Honor Roll

Center Valley, Pa. - Navy senior Chris Renninger, the Patriot League Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was among a group of 38 student-athletes named to the 2008 Patriot League Men's Golf Academic Honor Roll, Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced on Tuesday.

Renninger caps a career filled with accomplishments on and off the course with his spot on the list. He won consecutive Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, and was named the Patriot League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2007. Renninger was a First-Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection this spring after receiving second-team recognition a year ago. Renninger ranked No. 1 in his class in the academic order of merit, and finished his time at Navy with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as a Chemistry major, which he also posted in the spring semester.

Renninger is one of four honorees to record a 4.0 GPA, and one of three to reach the mark from Navy. Junior Chip Hardie and senior Ryan Sload joined their teammate by recording a 4.0 GPA, while Lafayette's Andrew Carlins also hit the mark. Army senior Patrick Beverly and Colgate junior Montek Mayal made the list after earning ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors along with Renninger, while four All-Patriot League performers (Colgate senior Ricky Hayes, Bucknell senior Rahul Desai and sophomore Andrew Cohen and Navy junior David Miller) were also on the Academic Honor Roll list.

Bucknell and Colgate led all schools with seven selections to the Patriot League Men's Golf Academic Honor Roll.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
