CENTER VALLEY, PA. - Recent Army graduate and former two-time team captain Scott Manley was selected as the Patriot League Men's Golf "Scholar-Athlete of the Year" by league officials and conference sports information directors. Manley was a four-year letterwinner for the Black Knights and recently graduated from the Academy with a 3.53 grade point average and a degree in Economics.

Manley earned a plethora of awards and honors in his four years at West Point, including first team All-Patriot League laurels and All-New England accolades. A native of Dove Canyon, Calif., Manley averaged 76.7 strokes per round in his senior campaign and placed in the top 10 five times. He was Army's top finisher in five events, won medalist honors at the Service Academy Classic in Dallas, Texas and was runner-up on two other occasions. Manley carded a career-low round of 68 at the Mulekicker Fall Classic at the West Point Golf Course this past fall.

A three-time All-Patriot League selection, Manley helped the Black Knights win three Patriot League championships and advance to three NCAA Regionals. He was Army's top finisher at both the 2002 and 2004 NCAA Regionals, tying for 54th at the 2004 event in New Haven, Conn., which was the highest showing by an Army golfer since 1992. For his career, he won three tournaments, finished runner-up six times and placed in the top 10 21 times.

Manley was named Patriot League "Player of the Year" as a plebe in 2002 when he won the individual conference crown with a league-record score of 209. Another highlight for Manley and the Black Knight golfers came in October 2004, when Army defeated arch-rival Navy in dual-match play for the first time since 1998. Manley recorded victories in both singles and doubles play to clinch a 7-4 victory for the Black Knights. He registered a career stroke average of 75.5 over 116.5 rounds.

Manley joins men's tennis standout Carl Fisher and track and field star Paul Strozier who were also recognized by the league as scholar-athletes in their respective sports. Manley will be returning to West Point this fall to serve as the athletic intern for the golf program alongside head coach Jimmy Ray Clevenger.
