Adding to Army's success during the 2005 spring season, senior golfer Scott Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita) has been named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's golf. The League office made the announcement on Thursday following a vote of Sports Information Directors.
Manley's fourth-place finish at the Patriot League Tournament helped him earn All-Patriot League first team honors while also leading the Black Knights to one of five spring championships. For the season, he produced five top ten finishes, including medallist honors at the Service Academy Classic.
Over 116.5 rounds in his collegiate career, Manley turned in a 75.5 stroke average. He captained the Army squad in 2004 and 2005, and was named Patriot League "Golfer of the Year" in 2002.
On the academic side, he achieved a 3.53 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Economics at West Point.
To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or hey player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
The other nominees for Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete were Bucknell's Ben Pellicani and Lafayette's Jeremiah O'Neill.
The 2005 academic honor roll for men's golf will be announced in late-July.
