In the third round of his third tournament this summer, former Naval Academy golfer Billy Hurley (Leesburg, Va.) has leapt from 17th to fifth with a 3-under par 66 Saturday afternoon. Hurley, along with Webb Simpson and Andy Svoboda, are 2-under par (205) and just four strokes out of the lead held by UCLA's Roy Moon.
Hurley got off to a slow start in the tournament, turning in a 1-over 70 after the first day. He slipped deeper in the standings despite shooting par in the second round of action. Hurley's 3-under par Saturday was tied for the second-lowest round of the day, just behind Palmer Cup teammate and defending Northeast Amateur champion Chris Nallen who is a stroke behind Hurley at 1-under par and shot 4-under in the third round.
The final round of the Notheast Amateur Championship is set to be played Sunday morning at 7 a.m.
