June 16, 2006

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Sophomore Patrick Beverly of the Army golf team has been selected to the 2005-06 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Second Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Beverly, a native of Humble, Texas, is a two-year letterwinner for the Black Knights. He played in every round this spring, sporting a 79.3 stroke average, and helped Army earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional for the third consecutive year. His best individual finish this spring was at the Patriot League Championship where he finished tied for eighth, garnering All-Patriot League second team honors.

Beverly appeared in all five fall tournaments posting a 73.3 stroke average over 12 rounds, second-lowest on the team. He recorded three top 10 finishes, including winning the individual title at the Service Academy Classic with a three-round composite 214.

The two-time second team All-Patriot League selection carries a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Management.

Beverly is the second Black Knight to earn a spot on an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team during the 2005-06 season. Julie Jorgensen from the women's soccer squad earned first team accolades during the fall. It also marks just the 20th time since the program's inception in 1952 that Academic All-America honors have been bestowed on a cadet-athlete.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.

The men's at-large program for the Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
