Navy senior Brian Crum (Fairfax, Va.) rallied from a three-stroke deficit heading into the final round and posted a four-under-par 68 to capture medalist honors and lead four Navy players onto the 2003 All-Patriot League Golf Team.

Crum finished the 54-hole tournament with a four-under-par 212 to top teammates Billy Hurley (Leesburg, Va.) and Nick Rogers (Lothian, Md.) for the tournament's top individual honor. Hurley, who tied for first place in 2002 but was defeated in a sudden-death playoff, placed second with a one-under-par 215 while Rogers was third with a 223 final score.

All three, along with junior Joey Kistler (Savannah, Ga.), finished among the top 10 in the tournament, led the Midshipmen to the team championship and earned All-League recognition. Navy's team score of 878 captured the team trophy at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., ahead of host Lehigh (909), defending champion Army (916) and Lafayette (923).

The second-place Mountain Hawks placed three sophomores on the All-League team, including Patrick McCahill (Melbourne, Fla.), John Jaravata (Brick, N.J.) and Nam Kyu Park (Oberursel, Germany).

McCahill placed fifth in the overall standings with a 226, two strokes behind Army sophomore Pete Phipps (Hudson, Ohio), while Park tied Army's Kevin Lee (Chula Vista, Calif.) for sixth place, each with 227s, and Jaravata tied Bucknell's Tom Lane (Cinnaminson, N.J.) for eighth place, each with scores of 228.

Lee, who tied Hurley and fellow Black Knight standout Scott Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif.) for first place in the 2002 championship, is one of three players to earn All-League recognition for at least the second time in their careers. Hurley is a three-time All-League honoree while Crum and Lee earned PL recognition for the first time in 2002.

Rounding out the 2003 All-PL Golf Team are Bucknell junior Abbie Valentine (Bayville, N.Y.) and Lafayette junior Brad Rock (Smithtown, N.Y.), who tied for 11th place with final scores of 230.

Lafayette's first-year mentor Jim Hutnik took home the final award from the championship weekend when he was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. In addition to helping Rock earn All-League status, Hutnik guided the Leopards to fourth place in the final standings, which is the team's highest finish in the 13-year history of the championship.
