April 29, 2002
Army Fr. Scott Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif.) won Golfer of the Year honors on the third playoff hole and led five Black Knights onto the 2002 All-Patriot League Golf Team.
Manley finished the 54-hole tournament in a tie with junior teammate Kevin Lee (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Navy Soph. Billy Hurley (Leesburg, Va.), all with championship record-setting scores of 209. All three were named to the All-League squad.
Joining Manley and Hurley on the All-League team from the Black Knights are seniors Peter Mangold (Allison Park, Pa.), who finished sixth in the championship, Ryan Hazelton (Solana Beach, Calif.), who was seventh, and David Crawford (Griffin, Ga.), who tied American University senior Wes Cupp (Rome, N.Y.) for ninth place.
Army's Jimmy Ray Clevenger, who guided his team to seventh League title in the 12-year history of the League, was named by his peers as the 2002 PL Coach of the Year. It was the seventh time Clevenger won the award.
Navy, which had its three-year reign as PL champions snapped by the arch-rival Black Knights, was represented on the All-League team by Hurley and Jr. Brian Crum (Fairfax, Va.), who finished eighth in the championship.
Rounding out the 2002 PL All-League team are Colgate Jr. Jesse Smith (Northfield, Mass.) and Lehigh Sr. Bowen Osborn (Wayzata, Minn.). Smith placed fourth in the championship, leading the Raiders to fourth place in the team standings. Osborn, the 2001 PL medalist, earned his fourth-straight All-League berth after leading the Mountain Hawks to third place.
